The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is the highest court in Texas for criminal matters, established in 1891. It consists of a presiding judge and eight judges, and it has final jurisdiction over all criminal cases in the state, except for juvenile proceedings.

The First Court of Appeals considers a staggering variety of cases from 10 counties in the Houston region. The range includes everything from murder cases to quibbles over contracts. The Court has appellate jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases from district and county courts in the ten counties that it serves; except for cases where the death penalty is imposed. The First Court of Appeals is composed of a Chief Justice and eight Justices. All of the Justices are elected to six-year terms.
$30 meeting fee includes program, lunch*, tax & tip.
